Energy Saving Construction
When the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy introduced the ENERGY STAR® program, On Top of the World Communities began integrating energy-efficient products and building techniques into the construction of our homes. In 2000, we initiated third-party inspection/verification of our homes’ energy-efficiency in order to receive the ENERGY STAR blue label indicating that the home met ENERGY STAR guidelines. As an early proponent of the program, On Top of the World became the first active adult community in all of Florida to receive 100% ENERGY STAR qualification on new homes. On Top of the World continues this commitment to building the highest quality homes with reduced energy use that meet or exceed the strict guidelines set forth by ENERGY STAR. Our standard features support environmental stewardship and achieve ENERGY STAR qualification and include:
R-30 Batt/Blown Attic Insulation
Benefit to you: It reduces heat transfer through the roof of the home. (Minimum required is R-19.)
Rigid Foam Board Wall Insulation
Benefit to you: With proper taping technique, it provides a continuous barrier around the inside of the home which serves as a seal against air and moisture transfer.
Electrical Boxes Mounted to Furring Strips
Benefit to you: Creates fewer penetrations in the block wall, providing a better seal in the building envelope.
Low-E Windows
Benefit to you: They reduce condensation, reduce heat gain/loss and block 90%+ of the sun’s damaging ultraviolet light, protecting the interior of the home.
Reflective Radiant Barrier
Benefit to you: This barrier helps keep heat out of the attic, thereby keeping your house cooler while running the AC less.
Sealed, Insulated and Right-Sized Ducts in the Ventilation System
Benefit to you: Prevents air leakage, reduces energy loss, and provides efficient distribution of conditioned air throughout the home. (NOT ALL builders adhere to the correct duct-sizing calculations as provided by the Air Conditioning Contractors of America Manual J and Manual D.)
Multi-position Variable Speed Fan Motor in Air Handler
Benefit to you: Saves energy as fan speed is determined by the temperature demand rather than running at a constant speed.
Programmable Thermostat
Benefit to you: Saves energy by only cooling the house during certain times of the day.
