Water Wise at On Top of the World
Sustainability. We all strive for it. We want our planet, our environment, to be clean and to continue providing the resources we all need. We all must be mindful of our actions and contribute positively to the practice of conservation of all resources. At On Top of the World Communities, we do our part. Not only do we build homes to high energy efficiency standards but we strive to be water wise in our landscape practices and in the products we offer for use in the homes we build.
Kitchens and Bathrooms
Choosing to be water wise in your home does not mean sacrificing beauty or design. The Delta® bathroom and kitchen faucets On Top of the World offers in our Design Studio are both water saving and stylish. Delta® has produced a wonderful selection of products that meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense requirements – making them water efficient and sustainable while still being decorative. Standard bathroom faucets deliver 2.2 gallons of water per minute (gpm). The WaterSense certified Delta® bathroom faucets we offer deliver 1.5 gpm, saving 12 ounces of water every 8 seconds. The shower heads deliver 1.6 gpm, reducing water usage by 36%. And the kitchen faucets, which feature the DIAMOND™ Seal Technology to eliminate lead in the water as well as leaks, produce 2.0 gpm1. In addition to water saving faucets and shower heads, we also offer low consumption, high efficiency commodes which also support sustainability.
Planting a Water Saver Yard
On average in the state of Florida, 50-70% of a home’s water usage is utilized by the irrigation system, and 50% of that water can be wasted by over-watering. On Top of the World Communities is committed to using water wise, Florida-friendly landscape practices and conservative irrigation design principles in its commercial and residential areas. Each neighborhood’s common areas are uniquely landscaped to create individual character, but all designs use drought tolerant sod (such as zoysia, bahia and St. Augustine) and native plants/grasses (i.e. cord grass, muhley grass, juniper, society garlic, agapanthus, purfordi holly, etc.) which require minimal irrigation.
In addition, we use water-conserving irrigation initiatives. The drip irrigation systems we install use substantially less water than a conventional irrigation system, and pressure regulated irrigation heads control the maximum output of water. The result is lower water usage and lower water bills. Our commitment to water wise landscape practices has earned On Top of the World Communities recognition as a Florida Friendly Landscape Community by Florida Yards & Neighborhoods. In an effort to promote awareness of water wise practices and conservation, On Top of the World Communities provides information about the water restrictions of the local water management district on a consistent basis to its residents.
