Of All the Holes Where You Need a Little Luck...
You’re faced with the ultimate in superstition on hole #13 at Candler Hills Golf Course.
Hole 13 is a modest par 3 that plays at 100 yards from the Red tees and 211 yards from the Black, Championship tees.
But the yardage isn’t really the problem. It is ultimately shot selection and course management. 
The 13th green is elevated above the tee box area. The green is 27 yards deep and some 40 yards wide. From the tee… you can only fully see the front right side of the green. The balance of the green seems to turn into a ribbon of grass as it passes between the large bunker in the front of the green and the bunker that is at the mid-point of the green in the back.
If you have landed your tee shot on the green, your battle has just begun. As the TV announcer says…“Wait, there’s more!” The 13th green has 3 distinct tiers. In the upper left, the green slopes forward toward the bunker and slightly to the left. As you move toward the middle of the green it drops slightly and starts to rapidly 
move toward the front right of the green. There is one more distinct drop as you get to the edge of the sand trap in front of the green that funnels everything off the green to the right. This green has a slope change from the front right edge to the back left of some 4 feet. Good luck keeping a shot on the green if you hit a tee ball in the back bunker… it’s all down hill from there.
After watching 3 groups play this morning…a secret was found to playing the hole if the pin is in the front right. You play short and pitch and run your 2nd shot on to the green and tap in for your par. But if the pin is in the back left… it seems it would be “hit and hope.”
On the course, the 13th hole is known as “Waste Not… Want Not,” in which case par is truly a reward.
