"It's So Easy Being Green"

It’s so easy being green. At least that is what we believe at On Top of the World Communities. But we couldn’t do it alone. That’s why at the grand opening event of our new Model Home Center in November, we presented a comprehensive consumer expo, entitled “It’s So Easy Being Green,” to showcase our industry partners whose products and services were used in the construction of our homes. By partnering with like-minded businesses who share our commitment to environmental sustainability, we are able to achieve a high level of energy and water savings in our new homes.
While we, as a company, understand the commitment of our industry partners to green practices and can explain the benefits of their products/services to our home owners (both current and future), the expo was designed to give consumers a chance to speak one on one with these vendors to learn how their company’s efforts contribute to the ENERGY STAR® qualification of a home.
Educational presentations were given by participating vendors on a variety of topics:
- Solar products for the home (Solar Lights & More)
- Water conservation in the home (Mike Scott Plumbing)
- Cabinetry made from recycled materials (Florida Design Cabinets)
- Water-wise landscaping (On Top of the World Communities Landscape Dept)
- Carpeting made from recycled bottles (Mohawk Industries)
- Solar electric systems for the home (ECS Solar)
- Benefits of natural gas (TECO)
- Sustainable home building (On Top of the World Communities Construction Dept)
- Recycling (Waste Management)
- How the ENERGY STAR program works (Professional Testing Associates)
Other exhibitors included Central Florida Countertops, Great Lakes Carpet & Tile, Ocala Plastering and Crossroads Interlocking Paving. In addition, On Top of the World sponsored a contest in which expo visitors could try for a chance to win a hybrid car, the Toyota Prius.
This successful event hosted over 1,200 people.
