On Top of the World RC Flyers Hosts the 5th Annual Big Bird Fly-in
“This is the best event ever!” exclaimed event coordinator Doug Ensley. “I’m already looking forward to next year being bigger and better,” Ensley added.
Saturday, March 27th was a day with blue sky and a bright sun…ideal flying conditions except for a windy breeze that made flying
interesting. “Wind speed and direction are very important,” Ensley commented. “Since our field is situated in an East/West configuration, the easterly wind was ideal for the event. We clocked wind gusts of up to 18 mph.”
A record number of 37 pilots registered for the event with 47 aircraft. As many as 4 aircraft were in the air flying at a time. There was a constant flow of War Bird, Modern designs and 3D aircraft in the air.
Over 350 spectators came to watch the event. Club Announcer Bob Wrobleski explained all aspects of the event to the spectators, from what type of aircraft the pilot was
flying to the type of maneuvers that the pilots were completing. It was quite an impressive display of knowledge.
This is a IMAA sanctioned event so be sure to catch a wrap up story in the High Flight magazine in the months ahead, and plan to be here next year to experience On Top of the World RC Flyers' 6th Big Bird Fly-In.
