Ryder Cup Tournament

Intense competition!  What better way to describe the Ryder Cup than those two words.  The male golfers at the On Top of the World Communities golf courses have been preparing for this annual event staged between the golfers at the On Top of the World Golf Club and the Candler Hills Golf Club.  What is at stake you might ask? This winning team takes all 54 hole tournament bragging rights to one club for the next 365 days!

This year 40 participants from the two clubs competed in three different formats over all the communities’ courses. The team competition featured both Four-Ball (better ball of twosome) and Foursome (modified alternate shot) events. The final day was the individual matches of the Ryder Cup setup. When the last putt was holed, the teams had played to a 38-38 tie.  That means the 2010 match added pressure on the last few groups in the final day’s pairings. No one wants to let their fellow golfers down in the Ryder Cup! After the last putt was holed, host team On Top of the World Golf Club captured the 2010 Ryder Cup honors with a 48 ½ to 31 ½ point total over Candler Hills Golf Club. (Ladies, don’t fret – the women compete in their event, the Solheim Cup, in October!)

For golfers wanting more of an individual approach in tournaments, the MGA and LGA Club Championships are a way to showcase the golfer’s talents.  March and April are dedicated to crowning league champions at both On Top of the World Golf Club and Candler Hills Golf Club. Most events are either a 36 or 54 hole competition held on the respective league’s golf course.
