March 22, 2010 Mr. Kenneth D. Colen, President Dear Mr. Colen: Congratulations to On Top of the World for achieving a 2010 ENERGY STAR® Excellence Award for its long-term commitment to energy-efficient homes and consumer-education programs. This honor is particularly impressive since OTOW was selected from among 17,000 partners in the Energy Star program and was one of only six builders in the country selected as a recipient. The comprehensive ENERGY STAR option package offered to new home buyers at OTOW allows homeowners considerable savings on their energy costs while reducing greenhouse-gas emissions. Being the first active-adult community to receive 100 percent ENERGY STAR qualification on all new home construction is quite an accomplishment. With the 2010 ENERGY STAR Excellence Award, On Top of the World continues to be a leader in 55+ master-planned communities in the country. I am proud to represent the residents of OTOW in the Sixth Congressional District and wish your community continued success in your ongoing efforts to offer homeowners innovative building alternatives. Sincerely,

On Top of the World wins top EPA national honor

On Top of the World wins top EPA national honor
On Top of the World Communities is the only Florida home builder to be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency with a 2010 ENERGY STAR® Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion Award for its energy-efficient homes and consumer-education programs.
Moreover, On Top of the World Communities was one of just six home builders across the country to be so honored at recent ceremonies in Washington, D.C., says company president Kenneth D. Colen. Winners were selected from more than 17,000 companies and organizations nationwide.
According to the EPA, On Top of the World Communities was selected “for its outstanding contributions to reducing greenhouse-gas emissions by educating new-home buyers about the value of choosing an ENERGY STAR-qualified home.”
The EPA reports that last year alone, Americans ... with the help of ENERGY STAR ... saved $17 billion on their energy bills and reduced greenhouse-gas emissions equivalent to what is produced by 30 million vehicles.
One example of On Top of the World’s commitment to this effort was last year’s decision by company officials to offer a solar-power option on every new home it builds. In fact, one home in the community's new model-home center – the 2,188-square-foot Huntley II – features solar panels as a secondary source of energy that saves as much as 75 percent on monthly energy bills.
ENERGY STAR construction employs the whole-envelope approach that integrates tight-home construction techniques to reduce drafts, noise and moisture, while improving air quality and reducing the escape of conditioned air.
All On Top of the World homes are steel-reinforced concrete block construction, and every home meets or exceeds ENERGY STAR guidelines ... verified by independent inspectors. And On Top of the World is Florida’s first active-adult community to receive 100 percent ENERGY STAR qualification on all new homes.

On Top of the World Communities The lure: If it seems like no one's home, it's only because there is so much to do. Calendars juggle 600 classes with visiting scholars and instructors and meetings of 200 clubs and organizations. Additionally, you'll find residents at two large recreation centers and three championship golf courses. A new model park will feature designs in three new-home neighborhoods. What residents say: Jane McCabe, 67, says she watched On Top of the World develop for 25 years but never thought she would live there after a retirement move from Jacksonville, FL, to Louisville, KY. But she remarried in 2004, and on a trip to Florida in 2007, her new husband, Jim, remarked that it would be nice to have a second home there. They moved in January 2008 and now live there full time. "You can have the best of any world you want," Jane says. "It's just such a friendly community with all kinds of housing styles. It's just the perfect place for us." Prices: $170,000s-$340,000s for single-family homes. |
